One of the best parts of being a PC gamers is that you can buy games from a number of digital storefronts. However, some of these storefronts are gray market retailers that sell keys that are essentially stolen through credit card chargebacks or other means. G2A is one such example, and people have even said they’d rather you pirate their games than buy from G2A. Still, there are a number of digital storefronts that are completely legitimate beyond the mainstays like Steam and GOG. Let’s walk through some of them.
Two of the most popular key resellers that are completely legitimate are the Humble Store and Green Man Gaming. You might not find insane deals at either of these places, but the places with consistently crazy deals are probably reselling sketchy keys. It’s definitely worth checking both the Humble Store and Green Man Gaming before buying anything from Steam if you want to save a few bucks.
Beyond those two, there are still a bunch of legitimate key resellers out there. In fact, there are so many that it’s probably not worth just listing them all, especially since I’d certainly miss a few. Luckily, there are a few places you can go to find legitimate resellers.
SEGA Approved Partner List
SEGA hosts a list of all of their approved digital retail partners. This is not a complete list, and just because a site is not on this list does not mean that it is illegitimate. However, if SEGA says a site is legitimate, you can be completely sure that it’s a good site to buy from.
If you click through to the site, you’ll see that that’s just the very beginning of that list. The nice thing about this list is that it has authorized resellers for countries all over the world. However, if you want a more US-centric list that has more options, you can always go to Reddit.
r/GameDeals Legitimate Key Resellers
r/GameDeals also has two lists of legitimate key resellers that is more focused on the United States. These lists are not exhaustive, so there are some legal resellers that do not show up. Still, if you buy from one of these storefronts, you can rest assured that your money is going to the right people.
At the end of the day, there are all sorts of places you can buy PC games from. However, some of these places are sketchier than others. Therefore, if you want to buy from legitimate storefronts, any of the ones listed in the resources in this article are great options. Not only will your money go to the right people, but you also won’t have to risk getting your keys revoked. Happy shopping and happy gaming!
