SURQUEROR: A Promising Kickstarter Game

Some people have a love-hate relationship with Kickstarter games. Sure, there have been some stinkers that didn’t live up to their potential (I won’t name any names), but there have also been plenty of wildly successful games that probably would not have been made if it wasn’t for Kickstarter (such as Divinity: Original Sin, FTL: Faster Than Light, and Undertale). Although there have been some infamous crowdfunding failures, Kickstarter is still a great way to help people make games that might not otherwise be made.

Today, I want to tell you about one such game: SURQUEROR, by Adrián Tomé Rodríguez. Not only does this seem like a promising game, but it has such a low target ($720) that every single pledge can go a long way toward making this game a reality. As of this writing, the campaign is at $142 of its $720 goal, including my own pledge in the Wizard tier.

What is this SURQUEROR Game?

SURQUEROR (which I’m guessing is a portmanteau of survivor and conqueror, with an added dash of sounding kind of like “securer”) sells itself as a “A Fantasy Game (KINGDOM like)”. For those who don’t know, KINGDOM is a game that crams a kingdom building simulator into a 2D sidescroller. You can see a screenshot below to get an idea of the game.

Similarly, SURQUEROR will also be a 2D sidescroller where you gather resources to build up a village, then continue to fortify that village and defend it from attacks. In my subjective opinion, it also has a nicer visual style than KINGDOM. You can judge for yourself in these screenshots taken from its Kickstarter videos:

Help Make SURQUEROR Happen!

Like I said before, SURQUEROR is only asking for $720 total, so every single pledge (starting at about $10 for a digital key of the game once it comes out, which is projected to be July 2021 right now) can go a long way toward that goal. In other words, you can make a much bigger difference by pledging to this Kickstarter than one asking for, say, $50,000. On top of that, there are some cool backer rewards and some reasonable stretch goals. Getting this Kickstarter to just $1,200 (which isn’t even double its original target) would mean you could get animal mounts!

The backer rewards are also great, as you can get a digital copy of the game for as little as about $10, or you can pay about $32 to get two copies of the game, access to a beta test, and in-game rewards like statues bearing your name:

Support Indie Developers!

If you love indie games, it’s important to make sure that indie developers have the resources they need to keep entertaining us. It’s also important to make sure that we get games from diverse voices, rather than getting games from the same perspectives every time. By supporting this indie project by a Mexican developer, you can do both of these things! The best part is, you don’t even have to spend that much money to do it.

SURQUEROR has 12 days left as of this writing, and even though it’s only about 20% of the way there, I’m confident we can get this funded.
