Steam is great for PC gamers. From their Linux efforts in Proton to family sharing, Valve gives PC gamers a bunch of reasons to buy games on Steam instead of another option like GOG. However, this newest one might just be the best one yet. I’m talking about Steam Remote Play Together. It’s Steam Remote Play, but Together. Let’s start by talking about Steam Remote Play.
Steam Remote Play
With Steam Remote Play, you can stream Steam games installed on one of your computers on your other computers (or one your phone). For example, I can keep all my games installed on my desktop (which is the most powerful computer I have), but with Steam Remote Play I can play them all through wifi on my laptop or on my phone. It used to be that you had to be on the same network, but this is not the case anymore, giving users a bunch of freedom in how they play their Steam games. This was already pretty cool, particularly for people with gaming desktops or people who prefer playing certain games on their phone instead of on a computer.
Steam Remote Play Together
Steam Remote Play Together takes this concept to the next level by letting your friends stream your game through their phone like they’re sitting in the room with you. This means that you can play local multiplayer games with your friends all over the country with Steam Remote Play Together. All you have to do is launch the game, then invite your friends to play with Remote Play Together! It couldn’t be easier.
Steam Remote Play was in open beta for about a month or so, but it’s officially out to all users as of yesterday! In other words, no matter where your friends live, you’re ready to play local co-op games with them right from the comfort of your own home. This is especially nice for games with no online co-op, because your friends don’t have to be on your couch to join in anymore.
Steam Remote Play Together Sale!
To celebrate this launch, Steam is having a sale on a bunch of games that can take advantage of Steam Remote Play Together. There are some pretty deep discounts on some great games here, so no matter what genre you like playing with your friends, there’s an option for you. To clarify, only one person needs to own the game to use Steam Remote Play Together, so if you buy any games from this sale, you’re ready for game night. Happy playing!
