The Kingdom of Loathing

Best Free Video Games With No Download Necessary

Whether you’re at the library, on a friend’s computer, or just don’t have a lot of space on your drive, free games with no download necessary can be a lifesaver. Since you don’t have to commit any money nor any time to downloading the game, you can really try all sorts of great, online games risk-free. I am a big fan of these game myself, so allow me to point you to the five best free online video games, or at least my favorites.

Tiny Heist

We’ve already told you about Tiny Heist here on My Dpad, but it’s such a great little game that it needs to be on this list. Tiny Heist is the perfect no-download game, because you can play as much or as little as you want, depending on how much time you have. If you’re looking for a great free game to play on your computer, Tiny Heist is a great decision. You also have the option to download it, though, if you don’t want to deal with loading every time you play.

Adventure Quest

Next up is Adventure Quest, an absolute classic free online RPG that you don’t have to download and can play right in your browser. Adventure Quest is a classic online RPG (though there is notably not any PVP in this game) that I’ve been playing for years. The battles are turn-based, and the graphics are 2D, so you can play whenever you want, on whichever computer you have available to you. That said, the gameplay is absolutely endless, and you will never get bored with this game. It’s free to play, but you can also pay a one-time fee to become a Guardian and get all sorts of bonuses, like experience and gold bonuses, free potions, and extra quests.

The Kingdom of Loathing

Speaking of free browser RPGs, The Kingdom of Loathing is one of the best ones you can play. This is even easier on your computer than Adventure Quest, since all the drawings are stick figure based (but it looks great, trust me). The Kingdom of Loathing is not only a great game with a good amout of daily gameplay for free players, but it’s also one of the most funny games out there. There are a lot of great free browser RPGs out there, but Adventure Quest and The Kingdom of Loathing are the two best. If you give it a try and end up liking it, make sure to check out West of Loathing (the developers’ paid, downloadable, single-player RPG) as well.

DOOM

DOOM, as you probably well know, is one of the greatest and most influential video games of all time (and that’s almost an understatement). What you might now know is you can now play the classic FPS on your browser for free. This version of the game has been converted to flash, but is the original first chapter in its entirety. If you’ve never played DOOM, there’s no better time than now, and if your kids don’t believe you how great it was, you can finally show them no matter where you are (assuming they’re old enough, of course).

Hexagon

Finally, if you’re looking for a quick puzzle game that you can play for two seconds (literally) or two hours, give Hexagon a try. This is the second Terry Cavanagh game on this list (after Tiny Heist), but only because all of his games are so great. Anyways, Hexagon is the first level of Super Hexagon, Cavanagh’s second hit game after VVVVVV. You can play Hexagon for as long as you want, and there’s no barriers to playing, you just can’t go on to different game modes. Still, even mastering the first level will take you a long time, and you can always try to beat your score, meaning this tiny free game has infinite replayability.

No matter what your video game tastes are like, one of those five games should help you kill a few hours or even a full evening. They’re all great, so I don’t really have a single one I’d recommend over the others. Since they’re all free, though, combined with the fact that you don’t even have to risk your computer by downloading anything, you can give every one of them a try.
