Everyone knows the feeling of going to Gamestop with a handful of games and walking away with a shiny new quarter and not much else. If you drove or took the bus it actually cost more to get there than you came away with, making it feel like even more of a ripoff. The antidote to feeling this immediate regret? Amazon Trade-In.
To be clear, I haven’t tried it myself, so I’m not saying you’ll necessarily be getting a better deal from Amazon than you would Gamestop. I’m just saying that even if Amazon disrespects your game/console value in the same way Gamestop does, at least you didn’t have to leave your house. To give you an idea of what they’re offering, though, Grand Theft Auto V for the PlayStation 4, which sells from $29.99-$59.99 on Amazon, will net you “up to $19.46”.
What’s the Amazon Trade-In process like?
Basically, the way it works is you can go to the Amazon Trade-In site, search for your product, and then answer a few questions about its condition. Then you print the shipping label and ship the product within a week. That’s about it. Importantly, Amazon will do a condition valuation when they receive the product, at which point they can decide to give you less money than they originally quoted you for. To avoid this happening to you, make sure not to mark something along the lines of “automatically accept lower valuation” during the Trade-In process. This way, you can still get your product back and minimize your risk. The guidelines for Amazon Trade-In are:
It’s crucial to know that the only way to get your trade-in money is an Amazon gift card. That can be a bummer for some people, but for people who buy most things through Amazon it shouldn’t be a problem. To compare it to Gamestop again, their store credit offer (which is already bad anyways) is always higher than their cash offer. Still, though, I would definitely understand that being a dealbreaker for someone.
Amazon Trade-In: Not just video games
While I’m focusing on trading in video games (for obvious reasons), you can also trade in a bunch of other things like electronics, DVDs, books, and more. In other words, a lot of things that are just sitting around your house can be shipped off and turned into Amazon gift cards. Go ahead and give Amazon Trade-In a try if you want a place to sell your used video games, consoles, and accessories, or anything else you have that’s collecting dust. As long as you don’t automatically accept a lower valuation once it’s shipped, you have nothing to lose.
