Ahh, good ol’ Yahtzee. The gentleman’s dice game. No way it could get any better, right?
Wrong. I’m here today to tell you about Dice Hunter: Quest of the Dicemancer. If you like the idea of rolling collectible dice to defeat monsters, well, your day has finally come.
Dice Hunter: Quest of the Dicemancer is a game where you hunt dice all around the Land of Chance, and use them to defeat the monsters trying to destroy the land. You do this in battles that are reminiscent of match-3 puzzlers, except you’re rolling six dice at a time to make your moves. This means that Dice Hunter is a thrilling and at times infuriating combination of skill and luck.
The way it works is that you always go into battle with six dice. These dice can roll one of four outcomes: attack, shield, stars, or lightning bolts. Attack and shield are self-explanatory, but stars and lightning bolts are less so. These are usually used to break down shields. For example, a monster might have a shield which can only be broken down by rolling two lightning bolts in the same turn, or you might come across a wall which can only be destroyed by two stars (or way more attacks than you want to waste). Aside from rolling every turn, you can also “lock” two dice at the beginning, and you gain a “lock” every turn. This adds just a bit of strategy to the game.
That pretty much explains the basics, so the main things left to talk about are the collectible dice and the dice hunt (shown below). You see, you start the game with six normal dice with no special powers at all. As you level up, though, you both gain slots that you can put new dice in, as well as “dice hunts”, where you can win new dice. These dice that you can collect all have their own special powers. For example, the green die in the far right picture above can do two damage to each enemy in the front row, as long as its fully charge. The silver die can do three damage to any enemy, and the red die can do two damage to any die and one damage to any dice around it.
Aside from battling and hunting for new dice, you can try the fortune teller, play tournaments and test your skill in challenges. The fortune teller lets you win prizes like coins, tournaments pit you against players all over the world, and the challenges let you test your dice collection in different situations, as one die type (like fire) might be the strong element one day and the weak element the next. These different game types let you test the versatility of your die lineup.
If you like mobile dice games and you also like mobile RPGs, you have to give Dice Hunter: Quest of the Dicemancer a try. It’s free and it’s a pretty small download, so it’s a low-risk proposition. Once you download it, though, I’m pretty sure you’ll keep playing until you get the perfect lineup of dice.
