Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow has been giving Futurama superfans (like me) at least something of their favorite show for the last few months. Sure, it’s basically a Simpsons: Tapped Out ripoff from the same people who made Family Guy: The Quest For Stuff, but it’s Futurama, complete with myriad references to the show and the original voice actors. In fact, Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow is something of a new Futurama episode in its own right.
That said, Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow is taking the next step by literally sponsoring a new episode of Futurama in the form of a podcast on The Nerdist. That is, on September 14th, 2017, a new episode of Futurama is coming out, with all the original voice actors and writers. In fact, literally the only difference between this and a real episode is that there will be no visual aid. This is also why it’s feasible, as animating the show is by far the most costly and time-consuming part of the process.
A Futurama Episode In A Podcast?
Now, some Futurama fans are disappointed (based on Facebook and Twitter comments) that this is not a “real” episode or a movie, or even the return of Futurama in the form of a whole season. To be honest, though, that’s just being unrealistic. Futurama already came back from the dead a few times, and the series finale was pretty damn final (although it also kind of left the door open for future stories for the comics, or, as we know now, podcasts). I think the only reason they’re even doing this podcast episode is because, like I said above, they don’t have to animate anything.
Still, there are plenty of reasons to be excited for this new episode, especially since it will be a double episode, coming in at 42 minutes. If you can’t wait until September 17th, Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow has some teaser content (as well as some nice in-game freebies) for you. Just open up the app, go to the store, and click on the free mystery box all the way on the left.
Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow
Futurama fans have had mixed feelings about Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow so far. Some think it’s a shame that they spent so much time and money on an unoriginal mobile game, while others are happy to take whatever they can get when it comes to new Futurama storylines. This new podcast episode, though, is a great move from Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, and might go a long way in bringing some goodwill. If you haven’t yet downloaded Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow, you should, and if it’s September 14th or later by the time you’re reading this, go check out the newest storyline from the Planet Express crew.
