If you like Flappy Bird (or any other type of endless runner game), you probably don’t lament the fact that the main character is anything but a bunny. There are some people out there, though, who refuse to play any game that does not star a bunny (or at least I assume so). For those people, the long search for an acceptable endless runner is over, as I’m here to tell you about Fat Bunny.
Fat Bunny isn’t quite an endless runner, as it is instead an endless hopper. That is, instead of running/flying/driving through an endless obstacle course, you have to hop your way through it. The biggest consequence of this change is that there is no time element to the game, as you control when the bunny moves instead of just how they move. You can also control the height and distance of your hop by varying how long you hold down on the screen first.
This means that Fat Bunny basically plays like an untimed platformer. A lot of endless runners try to fake the platformer feel, but by removing the timed element Fat Bunny comes close than any of the endless runners I’ve played. Removing the untimed element also makes this an overall more relaxing game to play than endless runners, since you can play more easily while watching TV or something.
Your main goal (besides distance) is to collect as many carrots as you can. This adds a bit more difficulty to the game, because otherwise it’s just a matter of not landing on any slopes, because that’s the only way you can die. The carrots incentivize taking a perfect jump route rather than just a passable one. You can also use carrots to unlock different bunnies, which I imagine will be the main draw of this game for bunny lovers.
Aside from removing the timed element from the infinite runner, endless bunny is not the most original game out there. That said, it’s very visually appealing and relaxing, so it might be the perfect infinite runner for a certain type of gamer. After all, it still has the “one-more-game” factor that every infinite runner needs, so you might just find it to be a great way to lose yourself for a few minutes or a bit longer.
Whether you’re a bunny lover or are just looking for a unique take on the infinite runner, give Fat Bunny a try. It’s free, so you have nothing to lose. If you have an Android, you can download it as an Early Access (read: unreleased), but if you’re on an iPhone you’re out of luck for now.
